LOCAL AUTHOR RELEASES LATEST BOOK, ‘SOUTH’
Popular local author Wendy Nilsen Pollitzer recently released her latest book, "SOUTH: What It Means to be Here in Heart or in Spirit." The book is comprised of 70 noted contributors sharing their stories, images, thoughts and experiences in a high-quality coffee table book edition. HHCA APPOINTS MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Hilton Head Christian Academy is excited to announce that Dylan Curtis has been appointed middle school principal. Curtis has been at HHCA for three years. Beginning in 2011 he became the school’s director of instructional media and technology, and previously served as a business educator in the academy of finance magnet program at Lansdowne High School in Baltimore. Curtis received his master's degree in arts and teaching and his bachelor's degree in corporate finance and risk management insurance from the University of South Carolina. He is also the head coach of HHCA's boys' varsity soccer team.

Jean Heyduck has joined the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry as vice president for marketing and communications. She will conceptualize and implement marketing, communication and public relations initiatives that build and promote the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry’s brand, image and strategic goals. Heyduck has more than 20 years of experience in agency, healthcare, financial services and nonprofit marketing, communications and public relations in Illinois, Wisconsin and South Carolina. She most recently served as executive director for The Literacy Center, located in Bluffton. Heyduck earned a master’s degree in communication from Eastern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University.

Pearce Scott Architects recently welcomed architectural designer Sarah Kepple to its growing staff. Kepple is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, where she earned a bachelor of arts in architecture and master’s of architecture. Kepple has been working in the architectural profession for more than 16 years. She has extensive experience in the production of working drawings for residential and commercial projects, including single-family and multi-family homes, and historic preservation.

DrRochelleHILTON HEAD HOSPITAL HIRES BREAST SURGEON
Dr. Rochelle “Shelly” Ringer has joined Hilton Head Hospital’s national-accredited Breast Health Center. Ringer is a fellowship-trained breast surgeon dedicated to caring for patients with breast disease.  She earned her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a residency in general surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. She went on to complete a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. 

Brad-TadlockHHI FIRE RESCUE PROMOTES TADLOCK TO FIRE CHIEF
Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Brad Tadlock was promoted to the position of fire chief June 20. He replaced Fire Chief Lavarn Lucas,  who retired after 32 years of service.  Tadlock began his career on Hilton Head Island in 1988 as a firefighter/EMT. He has progressed through the ranks and since 2008 has served as the deputy chief of operations, providing oversight of all the fire station operations, the training division and the Bureau of Fire Prevention.

The program features thee seminars focused on enhancing our island guests’ experience — Island Knowledge, Island Culture and Island Ecology. From the first known sighting of our beautiful island to current fiscal statistics, Island Knowledge provides valuable information about the unique attributes Hilton Head Island offers. Island Culture explores our rich history, informs about our natural attributes and ends with a focus on the island’s future. From our gentle ocean waves to the pluff mud of the marshes, Island Ecology takes a look at the unique ecosystems at work on our Island including the ocean, beach, dunes and marshes. Upon completion of all three seminars, attendees are certified as Island Ambassadors. The USCB Center for Event Management and Hospitality Training is a collaboration between the Town of Hilton Head Island and the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Hospitality Management Program.
